Computers4Kids

An Effective Practice

Description

Computers4Kids obtains used computers from businesses and individuals, refurbishes them to standard, installs appropriate software, provides ongoing computer training and mentoring, and distributes a refurbished computer system to a deserving child. The program uses computers as a catalyst for youths to challenge themselves, become engaged in their own learning, and realize greater possibilities academically, professionally, and for their community.

Goal / Mission

The overall goal of Computers4Kids is to empower disadvantaged children in the community by giving them computer skills and instilling in them self-confidence and a lifelong love of learning. C4K also strives to provide a safe, comfortable place for middle and high school students to explore their creative abilities.

Results / Accomplishments

From 2001-2004, Computers4Kids graduated 93 students from its 9-month training program. At the end of the nine months, students receive computers for their homes.
